Just as important as your vehicle's differentials, Transfer Cases are often overlooked. This is what gives your car or truck the ability to have 4-wheel drive. The Transfer Case holds a small amount of fluid so any leaks have to be detected early enough to prevent catastrophic failure.
Some signs that you need to have your Transfer Case fluid replaced are:
- Mileage (usually at 32-75K kilometers depending on make and model)
- Residue underneath the middle of your vehicle
- Difficulty engaging in 4-wheel drive
- Clicking or grinding sounds while driving in 4-wheel drive
Checking the Transfer Case fluid should be part of your regularly scheduled vehicle maintenance.
